Course Description:
During this ongoing class, students will learn the basics of capturing and recreating the human form with charcoal and pencil. This session will cover the basics of pencil value, anatomy, size, composition, light and shadow value, and much more. Each week we will sketch a live model using basic warm up exercises followed by a different creative method of figure drawing such as drawing without looking at her image, working with negative space and using the eraser as a drawing tool will be explored as well. Models will be draped so ages 16+ are welcome.
Instructor Bio:
Philip is a Marietta native and a graduate of SCAD and the Creative Circus Portfolio School. He specializes in oil on canvas and panel as well as mixed media and found object work. Philip’s work has been described as vibrant and energetic while using heavy, obvious brush strokes and thick waxy mediums to give his art texture and depth. Philip has displayed work for the High Museum in Atlanta and the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville. After several years of working the festival scene, he has found his place teaching Mixed Media/ Found Object and Life Drawing, finally giving him a chance to live out his dream of using his knowledge and talent to teach with the established Abernathy Arts Center.
