PASTELS:
• Savoir-Faire Sennelier Soft Pastels 1/2 stick set of 80 AND
• Prismacolor NuPastel Sticks set of 96
Feel free to bring more pastels; other quality pastel brands include: Unison, Schminke, Great American,
Terry Ludwig, Jack Richeson, Rembrandt, Mt. Vision, and Girault.
PAPER:
• UArt 9x12 Pad of Sanded Pastel Paper, 10 sheets, Natural, 400 Grit,
OR 2 single sheets UArt Natural, 400 Grit, 24”x36”, AND
• Canson Mi -Teintes Touch Sanded Paper, 22"x30", Twilight, 1 or 2 sheets

NOTE: Students with similar products need not make new purchases; with that in mind, highgrade pastels and paper yield the best results.

OTHER SUPPLIES:
#2 or Other Drawing Pencil and Sketch Paper
Gray Kneaded Eraser by Faber-Castell, General’s, Prismacolor, or Lyra
Sticks of Soft Vine Charcoal
Glassine,Wax, or Tracing Paper to protect unframed work
Backing Board (i.e. foam core larger than paper size)
Masking Tape and/or Metal Clips to hold paper to board
Portfolio Carrier/Tote or Folder large enough to hold papers
90% Isopropyl Alcohol for underpainting (for underpainting)
8 oz. metal or glass container with lid
Roll of Viva Paper Towels (original texture)
Workable Fixative Spray (Krylon or other brand)
Wide Bristle Inexpensive Paint Brush (for underpainting)
Nitril or Latex gloves
Baby Wipes
Roll of Aluminum Foil to line easel track
Color Wheel (optional)
Art Chamois (optional)

Course Description:

 Students will learn key pastel techniques, application methods, color harmony, and composition, to create vivid paintings in a variety of subjects.  Classes will include demos, reference materials, and individualized instruction for all levels.

 

Instructor Bio:

 Evelyn M. Breit is an Atlanta based artist who works from the live model in pastel, pencil, charcoal, and oil. A full-time artist for many years, she also paints landscapes, still-life, and portraits.  Evelyn is a winner of numerous awards and holds a BFA with honors from the State University of New York.  She has studied portrait and landscape painting with Susan Ogilvie, Margaret Carter Baumgaertner, Burton Silverman, Richard Whitney, and Bill Hosner.  Evelyn is Master Pastelist at the Southeastern Pastel Society, Juried Associate Member with the Pastel Society of America, and Member of Excellence at Atlanta Artists Center.
