Brushes

Synthetic bristles are great for acrylics, but you may use whatever you already have. You don’t need a lot of brushes, just make sure to bring at least one large (2 or 3 in.) for backgrounds, a medium flat, and a small flat. You may bring anything other brush you prefer.

Water-media Paints

If you are new to painting, grab a fluid acrylic set that has a variety of colors. (Amazon find: https://a.co/d/9wPTFfL) Fluorescent or metallic colors are great to add as well if you enjoy them. When painting abstracts in acrylic I recommend using a more liquid paint instead of heavy body, as it can be dripped and splashed easier on the canvas. Feel free to add acrylic inks, markers, water-soluble pencils, pigment powders to your arsenal of supplies.

Canvas & Paper

We will work on a variety of sizes of canvases and mixed media paper. Bring a mixed media pad at first session (9 by 12” or similar) and we will discuss the size of next painting at each session.

Paint palette

Bring a disposable paper palette pad, or other type of flat palette; an old frame with glass or wax-coated paper works just fine. Paper plates are NOT good, nor palettes with wells

Other Supplies Suggestions (optional)

Medium - a small container of gloss or matte medium, any brand (you may also use only water and skip the medium)
Palette knife
Paper towels or rags
Spray bottle
Any texture-making objects such as a comb

Course Description:

Fall in love with painting abstracts while exploring the possibilities of working in acrylics. Learn to paint a quick and easy abstract painting and discover different ways to create non-representational art. You will finish a painting by the end of each session. A demo will be performed at each class and individual guidance will be given as you progress with your artwork. All levels are welcome!
