Learn the fundamentals of knitting in this introductory class, including cast on, knit, purl, bind off, and how to increase and decrease.  Create the stockinette stitch and garter stitch patterns. A review of knitting abbreviations, types of yarns, needle sizes, and samples of knit patterns will be presented.  Learn how to read a yarn label and be ready to select yarns for your future projects. Select a headband or a hat for the class project.  Finish it in class or at home with easy-to-follow instructions.

Instructor Bio:

Melanie has been a fiber arts instructor at continuing education programs and at community art centers, teaching both knitting and crocheting classes. She has designed and created an array of fashion items and accessories, including coats, sweaters, hats, scarves,  purses, and decorative items for the home.  She carefully selects yarns of quality and color that will translate into a finished item with visual appeal and longevity.  She has participated in a number of holiday craft shows in New York and Georgia and has donated many of her creations for charitable distribution.
