Location: Abernathy Arts Center
Class Price: $100.00
Notes: Watercolor Painting Supplies
Please feel free to bring anything not on the list.
Paint:
I prefer tubes, but use a pan set if that is your preference. I like Winsor & Newton, Holbein, Daniel Smith. Buy the best paints your budget will allow. Avoid Artist Loft, Master’s Touch, and Art Alternatives brands.
Basic Colors examples:
Blues: Ultramarine Blue and Phthalo Blue
Reds: Cadmium Red and Permanent Rose (or Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Magenta)
Yellows: Cadmium Yellow and Lemon Yellow
Neutral: Burnt Umber
We’ll talk more about colors when we meet.
Palette:

You may also use a butcher tray, coated paper plates, other smooth surface with raised sides
Brushes:
You’ll only need a few to get started: a round point approx. size 6 and a larger round wash with a point (1/4"-1/2"), a round detail brush (approx. size 1-4) If you already have brushes, bring them.
Surface:
Approx. 8” x 10” or 9” x 12” cold press 100% cotton watercolor paper 140 lb in a block, pad or loose sheets. 100% cotton paper will perform better than cellulose paper. Most all cotton papers have “100% cotton” printed on the jacket.
Arches 100% cotton blocks at Dick Blick:
